Devavrat vowed that he is not going to marry and also he is not a contestant to become the King of Hastinapur. The celestials showered flowers from heaven and he came to be known as “Bhishma” as he took a terrible vow. With the consent of the fisherman, Bhishma took Satyavati to his father on a chariot and informed him about his vows. A loving father Shantanu gave him a boon of Iccha Mrityu, the control over the time of his death. Later he became famous as Bheeshma. His “Vow’s” depiction is painted by Swamy C J
